Navajo Nation: Reclaiming the Plate

This powerful short film co-directed by Louie Psihoyos follows former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez on his mission to restore the health of his community through traditional foodways. In the face of modern health crises and food dependence, Nez leads an effort to reclaim Navajo farming, traditional diets, and cultural independence.

As Field Producer, I coordinated production across multiple Navajo Nation sites, managing interview-based storytelling that captures how reconnecting with ancestral agriculture can heal generations and build stronger community resilience. Through farming initiatives and food sovereignty projects, the film showcases the vital connection between cultural identity and self-determined food systems.

The documentary earned a Telly Gold Award for Documentary and screened at the Mill Valley Film Festival, demonstrating how Indigenous-led storytelling can illuminate pathways toward community healing and cultural reclamation.
